Funding Advice and Management Advice Service - Report
271k
This reports outlines the experience and recommendations following a ChangeUp funded project to enhance Funding Advice and Management Advice (FAaMA) Services in areas in Derby City and Southern Derbyshire.
The recommendations of this report are as follows:
- That a working group explore the likely impact of Derbyshire4funding on the work of development workers to advise on a staff structure across Derbyshire that could deliver high quality funding and management advice services.
- Continue discussions at DIC (or with CVS network) on best staffing model for an improved FaMa service across the county, using this report as a basis for discussion and continued support to meet the targets that were not met.
- The steering group of the Derbyshire Infrastructure Consortium is asked to delegate responsibility to a working group of its choosing to begin discussions with local authorities and PCT’s regarding flexibility in funding, to recognise cross boundary activity for the future provision of funding and management advice services for the county, using the provision of Derbyshire4funding as a base for the discussion.
- Assess the quality of services to which we would ideally signpost clients and compile this information as a source of reference.
- Future support of a network for development workers to enhance the value gained from working together and understanding the different models for development services (Derby CVS has secured £5,000 from the Governance Hub to support a network for development worker in the county up to 31 March 2007).
Planning Together?: The impact of parish plans and village appraisals in Derbyshire (Nov 2006)
Planning Together? - Report
3.8Mb
This report presents the findings of a study to
assess the impact of community planning processes
in Derbyshire for Derbyshire Rural Community
Council (DRCC). Community planning has been at the forefront
DRCC’s work for many years.
key findings:
i) Currently, community plans achieve most success at the level of community infrastructure.
ii) Communities have had limited success in influencing at the district and county levels despite wide support among agencies for the concept of community planning.
iii) There are a number of significant problems associated with sustaining the impact of community plans.
Recommendations arising from this research:
• Future work on community planning needs rethinking to reflect the findings of this research and the challenges that have been identified.
• Communities need to be re-assured about future community planning initiatives, and there needs to be clear co-ordination between agencies.
• Communities that have already undertaken plans need to be offered follow up support. The process of being involved in this research is likely to have re-ignited the interest of some plan groups and this potential should be harnessed.
• There is a need to develop strategic relationships with the agencies whose role it is to deliver the services under scrutiny in community plans – dissemination of these research findings offers an opportunity to begin this process.
Human Resources Support and Advice Project (Nov 2006)
The purpose of the project was to look into the current provision of Human Resources advice to the Voluntary and Community Sector in Derbyshire and also to look at possible models for the delivery of those services in the future.
A total of 2,000 questionnaires were distributed and 170 returned, identifying a mixture of support services used and needed. The project has succeeded in gathering valuable data about the nature and extent of HR provision in Derbyshire. It has provided a useful insight into the problems experienced by groups needing HR advice and the difficulty they would experience in having to pay on a regular basis for access to such services.
The County needs HR advice for voluntary and community groups, and investment is needed for the infrastructure workers to have the skills knowledge and ability to provide a good mix of reactive and proactive advice. The H’ouR Network is a step in this direction, and links with the work of the Workforce Development Hub will be essential for support and further opportunities for funds as well as information.

Faith in Derbyshire (May 2006)
‘Faith in Derbyshire’ has been published.
This research has three aims:
- to discover the nature and extent of faith group activity in Derbyshire communities;
- to identify the Infrastructure support needs of faith groups;
- to increase understanding between faith groups and other sectors with a view to improving possibilities of collaborative and partnership working.
The research has been undertaken in the context of an increasing acknowledgment from Central Government of the positive contribution that faith groups make to the quality of life. Alongside the findings of the research a number of case studies are examined. Conclusions are drawn and a series of recommendations made.
